Help me guys, my friend told me he believes you can scale characters power (wasn't expecting any more from you Laurent), saying Goku is the strongest because he can destroy "x" number of planets and used this "value" to say others are less strong. I asked him why he uses the number of planets he can destroy as a value and he told me it is because the stories usually all happen on Earth so you can use it between different stories to compare and power scale, but it is totally stupid considering there might be alien in some stories, new technologies, magic or whatever. Then he told me that you also have to take in consideration how fast, with how much of your power, how much of your body you can destroy planets. We had a long discussion where I basically explain him it is totally irrational, at some point I said that the author can determine his character's power just by saying he's invincible, for example we all know Saitama is the strongest because he can punch everything to oblivion. Then he says to me that Yujiro Hanma is also determined by his manga that he is the strongest.Tbh hearing people talk about those kinds of thing makes me hate power scaling in anime even more, considering it usually is just a lazy way to determine the antagonist or protagonist is stronger because of "x" power boost or pre-established strength. I think it really is irrational to believe in power scaling and however much I tell him, he still thinks he's "right" considering I can't bring anything more to the (irrational) debate. I just wanted to know what's your opinion on it, and if you had anything I could tell him to make him understand it is wrong, I usually have trouble expressing myself IRL not having the time to actually make the whole of my thoughts into words (if that makes sense). Also power scalers don't hesitate to come, I don't hold any grudge, anyways this is just the internet. Anyone that might disagree with me can tell it to me too, I might be a total moron without knowing it.
