The ADE or Adenla head cover with pearl curtain is a symbolic royal accessory of the Yoruba in Nigeria. Exceptional and so decorative. Originally, it served to completely hide the face of the Oba, the divinely determined king. Nowadays his face is covered by a simple pearl curtain. Tradition says that Oduduwa, the founder of the first Yoruba kingdom on Ile Ifé, gave each of his sons a pearl crown before leaving it to found their own kingdom. The most important kings were given the right to bear the magnificent pearl crown. In the past, the crowns from red jaspisperlen, Ilorin-Karneol or Kauris were manufactured. Later, colorful European pearls were added to the production of crowns, tunics and royal jewelry. The crown has a conical shape and is provided with numerous colorful bird decorations on the sides. Traditionally there is a removable bird at the top. The ADE head cover with pearl curtain is an impressive testimony of royal authority and cultural importance in the Yoruba. H: 80cm B: 20
