Initial D: First Stage (頭文字D(イニシャル・ディー)) is an anime based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Shuichi Shigeno. It was produced by Studio Comet and Studio Gallop. It aired between April 18, 1998 and December 5, 1998 in Japan. The anime series were licensed for English-language distribution in North America by Tokyopop (2002–2009), the anime license has since been picked up by FUNimation Entertainment.
