We’ll dive into the fascinating world of the Vukovic Gambit and discover how you can utilize it to dismantle your opponent’s defenses and launch a relentless assault on their exposed king. Here Is the Video Lesson Ponziani Opening Trap Let’s first see what the Ponziani Opening Trap is. The Ponziani Opening arises after the following moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 This opening is something fairly unknown for most chess players. And at this position, the main move for Black is 3…Nf6. I mean, normally, Black shouldn’t go 3…Bc5 because White can strike in the center with the move 4. d4 and challenge you right away. 3…Nf6 4. d4 Nxe4 5. d5 That’s the first kind of unpleasant surprise for Black. Perhaps Black was hoping for White to capture on e5, but now you have to worry about this knight on c6. 5…Ne7 6. Nxe5  d6 7. Bb5+! And as the knight moves back to e7 (5…Ne7), White captures over here on e5 (6.Nxe5). And at this point, since you have to somehow untangle your pieces and play 6. d6, it looks good for Black, but in fact, it’s a fatal mistake. Here, they’re going to play Bb5 (7. Bb5+!), attacking the rook. And, all of a sudden, it turns out that in order to save the king, you have to give up a lot of material. And White wins. So, that is the trick that they’re going to pull off against you. Counter-Trick: Vukovic Gambit 5…Bc5 But let’s take it a little bit back. In this position. They push the pawn to d5 (5.d5), expecting your knight to go back. Instead, play Bc5 boldly, allowing them to grab your knight. Because instead, you’re going to grab the king. You’re going to go bishop takes f2 and go after their king. Now, this is an extremely unpleasant change of the situation for White. Now, instead of being the attacker, they have to defend passively and being in that dangerous position for many moves ahead. White Defends f2 with a Bishop Let me also mention that there is no other way for White but to bite the bullet and grab the knight on c6 because if they try to play 6. Be3, let’s see what happens. White Accepts the Sacrifice  Since we know that White cannot play 6. Be3, or rather they can, but they end up in a losing position anyway. White should actually capture, at least not on c6, allowing you to go for these attacks against their king. Let’s see how the game proceeds. White Plays like Stockfish The best move for White in this position, according to Stockfish, is to counter attack with the move 7…Qd5, which attacks the knight, the pawn, and possibly threatens cxb7. Let’s see how to proceed. White Takes the Bishop  Stockfish recommends White to capture on b7, so that both players try to gobble up as much material as they can. Now what to do?
